BEHIND THE BRAND

My name is Tasneem and eleven years ago, when I was at crossroads in my life, unsure of what my next career move would be, I decided to fill the time by planning and hosting pop-up-boutiques - a relatively new concept in the SA market place at the time.

Initially, this really did start off as a hobby, certainly with no plan in mind, nor any end goal set ; but merely was a cool way to justify and sponsor my travels while I decided “what my next move” was going to be.

In this time I got to travel the world - every girl’s dream - Paris , London, New York and Australia - to source product to offer at the pop-ups. The pop-ups were curated as events at hotels at regular intervals during the year, and began to build up a loyal following! As each one was completed I started planning for the next one, and that is how Something Pretty began.

My journey really did unfold totally organically. The next step presented itself to me, and seemed logical at the time- to supply other stores and boutiques, whilst still hosting pop-up’s, and also then at this stage, hosting regular customers at my home to shop inbetween pop-ups. So many friends were made during this journey, friends whom I still have today! And in 2018, we opened the doors to our first store at The Constantia Village in Cape Town.

So what started as initially as a pass time, became a career, and a labour of true love.
With 4 store openings and a warehouse under our belt, it sometimes feels surreal that this has all stemmed from very small and informal beginnings .

I have learned so much over the years, have grown both professionally and personally, and have allowed myself to dream bigger than I thought was possible!

Something Pretty has become a sacred place and space to me, and I have created a brand that I am so proud of! Our mission remains the same as it did on that first day we showcased at our pop-up at Banksia Hotel in Rosebank; to offer the South African customer an intentional, quality collection that is elegant ,feminine and exclusively handpicked by me from all corners of the globe.
